In the Catacombs, the visitor discovers the under ground labor of Parisian quarrymen. Since Antiquity, they extract plaster used for constructions. In the ossuary, you can see the rests of about 6 or 7 million Parisians, put down in these places in the XIXth century, as we closed the former cemeteries of Paris. The Catacombs of Paris opened on June the 14th, 2005 after several months’ works. The lights were renewed, walls were consolidated and Rests rebuilt. The public can visit this real town ossuary, by waiting the opening of galleries in the Port Mahon area in 2006.
