The archeological crypt under the square was designed in order to protect the vestiges discovered during the excavations made since 1965 by the Ancient Paris Commission. This area, the most important at that time, opened its doors in 1980. Its goal was to present the elements of the buildings which were edified at this place from the Antiquity to XIXth century.
