The Guimet Museum is born from the project of an industrial, Émile Guimet (1836-1918). He wanted to create a museum dedicated to Egyptian religions, classic antiquity and Asian countries. His travel in Egypt, Greece, a world tour with steps in Japan, China and India, allowed him collecting important collections he presented in Lyon since 1879. Later, he transferred those collections in a museum he made build in Paris and which was inaugurated in 1889.
